Telford & Wrekin Council’s Job Box service is backing National Careers Week 2024 next week – a celebration of careers guidance and free education resources across the UK.

National Careers Week, which runs from March 4-9, encourages people of all ages to explore different career pathways that match their interests.

Job Box can help people of all ages with their career planning and support them with CV writing, job applications and communication skills.

The service also encourages people to explore volunteering, work experience and apprenticeships as well as Supported Internships which help young people with SEND (special educational needs and disability) gain valuable skills and practical experience which can lead to employment opportunities.

During National Careers Week, people of all ages can drop in to Job Box at Southwater One, Telford between 10am and 5pm Monday to Friday for support and to access resources which can help them with their career journey.

The Job Box team will also be signposting people towards the Telford Skills Show on Thursday 14 March (11.30am-7pm).

Telford & Wrekin Council is sponsoring the event along with The Careers & Enterprise Company, Integrated Care System (NHS Shropshire Telford and Wrekin), Telford College and Harper Adams University.

It’s the largest event of its kind this side of the NEC in Birmingham and gives people of all ages the opportunity to find out more about local apprenticeship, employment and training opportunities which could be the springboard to a new career.

Visitors can take part in hands-on activities delivered by employers and training providers to gain a better understanding of apprenticeships and roles available and speak to employers that may be in a business sector they are interested in.

Employers will be able to offer support and advice and help people make that all important decision about their first career move or even a change of career path.

You can sign up for the Telford Skills Show here.

Councillor Eileen Callear (Lab), Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Visitor Economy, said: “National Careers Week is a celebration of careers guidance which is widely recognised across the UK.

“Not only does the week focus on the careers support which is available for young people as they leave education, it’s also a platform to promote help and guidance for people of all ages who are facing career challenges or are looking for a change of direction.

“We are proud to offer this support through our Job Box service and help people across Telford and Wrekin with their career journey, whatever stage it’s at.

“The Telford Skills Show is also the perfect opportunity for people of all ages to come and explore new careers and employment opportunities on their doorstep.”
