Led by Telford & Wrekin Council in collaboration with business sector leaders and partners this transformative strategy aims to support existing and new business growth and establish clear pathways from education to local employment with a strong focus on inclusivity.
Telford has seen continued investment success with growth of 14.5% in the business base – outstripping the region – and the aspirations are to continue this growth. As part of this there is a commitment to raising educational aspiration matching this with the skills businesses need as well as delivering a responsive, tailored support programme for existing companies and new investors.
Delivered in partnership there are seven strategic pillars – place promotion, supporting business growth and diversification, developing a stronger skills and talent pipeline, encouraging an innovation culture as well as infrastructure, sites and premises and quality of life.
The updated economic strategy recognises the challenges facing business including current global conflicts, technological advancements, and the climate emergency while staying true to the 2032 vision of an inclusive borough with a thriving economy.
The strategy sets the direction for new approaches to support the growth of the visitor economy, and a new skills strategy, to be established in the next few months.
