Telford HR and employment firm celebrates its apprentices

Danielle Chelsea

A Telford business is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week by highlighting two members of staff who began their careers as apprentices.

Employment law and HR specialists, Human Results, has a long history of giving opportunities to apprentices, with managing director Alasdair Hobbs warning businesses not to view apprenticeships as a recruitment shortcut.

He said: “We have always really valued our apprentices and dedicate time to training and integrating them into the team.

“I am delighted that two of our current team are former apprentices – office manager Danielle and administrator Chelsea, who completed her apprenticeship in October 2024.

“The reason some apprenticeships don’t work out is because too many employers see them as a source of cheap labour and don’t provide their apprentices with the right amount of training.

“The clue is in the title – a successful apprenticeship relies on the employer as much as the apprentice. Both need to commit to the process to help the apprentice develop into a senior member of staff.”

Human Results office manager, Danielle Wainwright, started her apprenticeship 10 years ago and has been part of the firm ever since.

She said: “I completed a Level 3 NVQ in Business Administration in early 2016, and since then my career has developed from business administrator to office manager.

“The apprenticeship helped my confidence massively, especially in talking to clients professionally, as well as helping my organisational skills, improving my problem-solving skills, leadership and attention to detail.”

Chelsea Owen joined Human Results as an apprentice in 2023 and is now a full-time administrator with the company.

She said: “The apprenticeship helped me develop a wide range of skills, such as building my confidence in professional communication when speaking with clients and senior colleagues. I also became much more adaptable.

“I also gained strong HR and employment law knowledge, improved my research skills, and developed a solid understanding of business operations.

“I am really pleased I decided to take an apprenticeship as it has been a brilliant route into a full-time career, and I would like to thank everyone at Human Results for their support.”

National Apprenticeship Week runs from February 10 to 16, highlighting the valuable opportunities provided by apprenticeships for people and businesses.
